PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY

Psychological therapy/counselling is a personal experience and we are all different, as such a holistic and individual treatment must be provided. Working with you, your therapist will decide which approach to use and help you get what you need from therapy.

Dr Avril Gabriel has worked in the NHS for many years, as well as engaging in voluntary and private sector work. Her work has brought her into contact with many clients of different ages, genders and backgrounds. Their difficulties have included different forms of anxiety, anger, low mood, problems regulating emotions, depression, suicidal ideation, problematic eating, low self-esteem, sexual difficulties, long term health conditions, social difficulties, identity issues, perfectionism, body perception, difficult family dynamics, adjusting to life changes, loss, phobias, pain, personality issues, relationship problems, self-harm, stress, substance misuse, trauma and problems within the workplace. She has conducted research looking at the experience of siblings dealing with substance misuse in the family.

Avril's training developed her skills in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and mindfulness approaches.

Qualifications: Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, Post Graduate Certificate-Low Intensity Psychological Interventions, Post Graduate Diploma- Mental Health Practice, BSc. Psychology (Hons.)

Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
